Day 1 & 2

Murchison Falls National Park

We're as excited as you are to get started on your Ugandan safari. After an introduction to your guide and a few brief formalities, it's time to get out there and find the animals for which Uganda is so famous.

Named after an explosive 43m-high waterfall created where the Nile erupts through a crack in the Rift Valley escarpment, Murchison Falls National Park is also one of East Africa's most rewarding safari destinations. Here you'll find golden-maned lions stalking the plains, large herds of Rothschild's giraffe striding through palm-studded grassland, and hippos basking in the river shallows while elephants and buffaloes come to drink. A highlight of the park’s prolific aquatic birdlife is the swamp-dwelling shoebills that are regularly seen around the delta formed by the Nile as it flows into Lake Albert.

Lake Victoria, Africa's largest freshwater body, provides a tranquil setting for Entebbe, the international gateway to Uganda.

Kibale National Park

Today, we enter the prime chimpanzee country of Kibale National Park. This immense forest is renowned for its rich diversity of primates, but it is chimps – humankind's closest genetic relative – that top the wish list of most visitors. On a good day in Kibale, you might also see half-a-dozen different monkey species, including the extremely localized Uganda mangabey. Other attractions include a bird checklist of 370 species, a kaleidoscopic variety of butterflies, and a scattering of beautiful crater lakes.

Day 4 & 5

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Time to get into safari mode as you enter Queen Elizabeth National Park, a savannah-dominated reserve known for its conspicuous populations of lion, elephant, buffalo and other iconic African creatures. There are also hippos on the pretty Kazinga Channel, a flat and narrow waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George within eyeshot of the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains, as well as rainforests alive with chimps and monkeys, and crater lakes tinged pink by flocks of flamingo. Indeed, this is possibly the most biodiverse national park anywhere in East Africa.
