Tips to make your trip cheaper to properly take advantage of the Open Parks Days
While free entry is a big saving, transport and accommodation are the main costs. Here are ways to cut expenses:
- Visit nearby parks: Fuel prices are high, so choose destinations closer to you. For example, from Kampala or Entebbe, Lake Mburo (3.5 hours away) is cheaper to reach than Murchison Falls (6 hours away).
- Travel in groups: Sharing transport costs with family, friends, or colleagues makes trips more affordable.
- Negotiate accommodation: Popular lodges like Paraa Safari Lodge (Murchison Falls) and Mweya Safari Lodge (Queen Elizabeth) often offer discounts during special seasons, especially for groups. Alternatively, camping with a tent and sleeping bag is adventurous and budget-friendly.
September is an ideal time for Open Parks Days because
- It’s just after peak season (July–August), so parks are less crowded.
- The weather is transitioning from the dry season to the wet season, bringing cooler temperatures and lush scenery.
- Light rains may occur, so pack rain gear to stay comfortable.
