A CONSERVATION SUCCESS STORY
Rhinos were once extinct in Uganda due to poaching ,with the last known individual killed in Murchison falls national park in 1983.in 2005, the Rhino Fund Uganda, in partinership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and private land owners,established Ziwa to reintroduce the species. the project began with 6 southern white rhinos some from Kenya and South Africa.
The santuary serves a dual purpose: breeding rhinos for eventual reintroduction into Ugandas national parks while offering visitors an immersive, educational wildlife experience.
