The Uganda Equator

The Uganda Equator is one of the best Uganda Safari Destinations where one can go and stand with one leg in the northern and the other in the south hemisphere.

The Uganda Equator is an imaginary line that bisects the Earth into two equal halves. .
This equatorial line spans over 40,000 kilometers, with 78.7% of it crossing over waters and 21.3% over land. It holds a latitude of 0°, making it the only line of latitude that forms a great circle due to the equal pull of magnetic fields from both the north and south hemispheres.

Though the equator is a few kilometers farther from the center of the earth compared to the poles, gravity is slightly weaker at the equator. A magnetic needle at the equator would maintain a horizontal position.

The Ugandan equator can be accessed via the Kampala-Masaka road, 72 kilometers from the city, or in Kasese, which is 420 kilometers southwest of Kampala.

Why visit the Uganda Equator?
The equator is significant because it divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The equator is also important for navigation. This line sits at 0° latitude, making it the reference point when travelers, map-makers, or anyone else needs to determine the latitudinal location of an object on Earth.

It is the line of demarcation for the seasons in each hemisphere. It’s also the widest place on the planet because the Earth bulges slightly at the equator. And it’s the place with the fastest sunrises and sunsets on the planet because the sun moves perpendicularly to the horizon at the equator.

Little can be said, but that’s not all especially when you grab the chance to visit it. As Inspire African Safaris team, there is never a moment when our clients miss such an amazing opportunity.
